Herbs for Back PainHerbs for back pain (and many other chronic pains that occur when sensitive nerve endings become irritated and tissues swell and become inflamed) has been a remedy for thousands of years. Herbs for back pain are still being used today in medical treatments and as part of herbal nutritional supplements. They have the added advantage of not having the dangerous side effects of steroids, for instance. Whole herbs are the best, and people can actually grow their own, but it is better to have an herbalist prepare the proper program so that it will be determined that the herbs will not interact badly with prescription medicines being taken. Before starting, go over that program with your doctor to make sure the doctor agrees with it and with the daily consumption recommended (which is important to adhere to). There are many herbs that help with back pain because they not only offer pain relief but different ones also are anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, muscle relaxant, and/or increase circulation. Meadowsweet and willow bark are natural aspirins. Two cups of tea or one or two dropperfuls of these herbs bring needed pain relief and are much less irritating to the stomach than the synthetic drug. Echinacea protects from germ and virus invasion, lubricates your joints, and is anti-inflammatory. Yucca reduces swelling, stiffness, and pain. Some sufferers are helped with various herbs within weeks, but in others it can take months. The enzyme bromelain from a pineapple's stem inhibits prostaglandins. In a study of 200 people over five years, 75% had good to excellent improvement. A common herb that one can use in all types of food is ginger, which has long been used to treat pain and inflammation and brings more blood to the injured or inflamed area. One study showed substantial relief in 75% in those who had osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Back pain can be helped by the benefits of herbs. Author: T.
